Michelle C. Whittaker-Board Treasurer & Communications Specialist

As a communications strategist, Michelle has over 15 years of experience in for-profit and nonprofit communications. Her expertise is in strategic messaging, constituency engagement, online engagement, and media outreach. Prior to joining DIEF, Michelle was the Director of Communications at FairVote, the Center for Voting and Democracy where she and her team helped to lift the profile of electoral reform and support grassroots advocates across the country fighting for a stronger voice in their elections. Michelle also served as the Communications and New Media Director for the General Board of Church and Society, an international public policy program agency of The United Methodist Church. She has facilitated numerous workshops on digital media strategy and served as a lead editor and contributor for academic and advocacy related publications.
