Hi! I’m Maria Gramajo and I am originally from the Bay Area and moved to DC for college almost exactly four years ago. I recently graduated from American University as an American Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major.
This summer I will serve as a Research Intern and am really excited to work for RepresentWomen. I first heard about RepresentWomen through a friend and past intern, Corrine, and instantly knew this was an organization I wanted to work with. I love research and share stories, so I am looking forward to doing the work I love for an organization I trust. I hope to focus on women’s representation in Tribal Nations and other doubly-marginalized communities, who are often left out of the larger narratives and movements.
When I am not studying or working, I love to read and write as well as work with mixed media in order to create and share stories. I enjoy walking around D.C. and timing myself - I walk really fast and try and beat Apple Maps’ estimated arrival time. I am looking forward to spending my summer catching up with friends and going on hikes and picnics in San Francisco because summer in San Francisco cannot be beat! I am also applying to graduate school this summer and look forward to going to a big research school in order to continue to study and uplift the marginalized communities that I am a part of.
