Julia Comino (she/her) is a first-year student at American University in Washington, DC studying Political Science and Journalism. Growing up in Mississippi, Julia became invested in advocating for climate justice after witnessing the detrimental effects that climate change has already had on her home state. Julia founded the Environmental Club and Charity Garden at her high school to educate her peers on climate justice issues and combat food insecurity in her community. Having grown up in a predominantly female household, Julia has always been an advocate for women’s rights. Through her work with the Mississippi Youth Against Sexual Violence Organization, Julia worked to educate Mississippi youth on how to address sexual violence and expand comprehensive Sex Education in her state.
As a Communications Intern with RepresentWomen, Julia works closely with Kaycie Goral, the Digital Media Manager, on projects for the organization’s website, social media platforms, and marketing campaigns. When she’s not studying for classes or doing work for her internship, Julia is exploring DC and seeking out the best coffee shop in the city.
