Cynthia Richie Terrell Joins Expert Panel on the Electoral College

RepresentWomen’s Cynthia Richie Terrell joins Lawrence Lessig, Alexander Keyssar, and other experts on DELIBERATIONS.US to debate Electoral College reform, the National Popular Vote, and ranked choice voting.

As part of Shaping Your Future, a national deliberative poll of young voters, hundreds of 18- to 29-year-olds crafted questions on Electoral College reform for a balanced panel of experts. Moderated by Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig, the panel featured Alexander Keyssar, David Kopel, Eileen Reavey, Norman Williams, and RepresentWomen’s Executive Director Cynthia Richie Terrell.

The discussion explored proposals such as the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, fractional allocation of electoral votes, and ranked choice voting as tools to strengthen American democracy. Cynthia Terrell emphasized how reforms like RCV could mitigate polarization, eliminate spoilers, and open political space for more women and diverse candidates—consistent with RepresentWomen’s mission to modernize systems so women can run, win, serve, and lead.

This timely conversation underscores the urgency of addressing structural barriers in U.S. elections and ensuring every vote truly counts.
